Built in the 19th Century and situated in the heart of the Trough of Bowland, Smelt Mill is the perfect launch off place for your groups adventures.
The Forest of Bowland is a wonderfully wild area of 310 sq. miles, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Smelt Mill is an amalgam of 4 cottages originally built in the 19th Century.
It has been used by the Team for over 40 years and gradually converted to a specialist Mountain Rescue Base, including accommodation for visiting groups and team members undertaking training.
It is the result of countless hours of voluntary work by past and present members of the team and, as such, represents one of the team’s most valuable (and valued) assets.
